How To Use Dabr With Multiple Twitter Accounts

I use @Dabr (free and highly recommended) to manage my Twitter activity, however once I started MaemoCentral.com, our sister site dedicated to Maemo and the N900, I started having problems managing both accounts simultaneously.

The obvious problem was that I had to keep logging in and out to switch accounts and the N900 not having a decent Twitter application didn’t help matters. It was then that @Dabr creator @davidcarrington offered me an awesome tip that said …

How To Copy Text Into & From Webpages Using Opera Mini 5

Opera today released Opera 5 Mini beta, the latest upgrade to its hugely successful web browser based on J2ME. The update brings many new features such as multiple windows/tabs, a speed dial, optimizations for touch devices and a password manager amongst other things. But the thing I am most excited about is the ability to copy text from a webpage. This functionality exists however, on first look it will appear as if you cannot copy the text out of the Opera Mini application or into it.
Fortunately, I have found a …

How To Add Super Cool Transitions To The N97

The Symbian UI is generally criticised for not having enough eye candy and even if you turn on the theme effects on the N97, it doesn’t do much. However, for those of you who are fans of slick transitions, I have some good news.

You can now add super cool theme effects onto your N97 easily and in under 5 minutes (that’s how long it took me) by following the simple tutorial below and without a computer. But first have a look at this YouTube video I’ve put together demonstrating some of these transition effects.

How To Hack Your Device In Under 5 Minutes

Having to sign an application every time you want to install something that’s not Symbian Signed is a bit of a pain, yes it can be done on the phone but if you want to completely rid yourself of this hassle then hacking your device is the best way forward. Unfortunately, Nokia had blocked this procedure via a new firmware for devices such as the E71, N96 and devices like the N97 were previously unhackable.

However, the Symbian community has once again managed a breakthrough

How To Access Blocked Websites From Your Mobile

I am currently in Dubai and the first roadblock that I hit when I landed here was the sheer ammount of blocked websites on the internet. I could not open ‘Truphone‘ from my mobile to recharge my account, then I couldn’t log into ‘Orkut‘ to connect with friends and this list increased with time as I tried more and more websites.

Needless to say this was unacceptable and since  most proxy websites and servers are blocked too it quickly became a pain.  Then I hit on the idea of using proxy …

How To Disable Camera Sound On Your Nokia

I am sure all of you at some point or the other have wanted to turn of the camera/shutter sound while taking pictures or videos for a variety of reasons. While on a handful of product codes you can simply turn of the ‘Warning Tones’ from the profiles menu to silence the camera tone, on most handsets that tip doesn’t work.

Enter this exceedingly small patch (under 1KB) that you can install to get rid of the annoying sound. There is no need to ‘hack’ your phone for this to work …

How To Get A Certificate To Sign Unsigned S60 Apps

There are a lot of ‘unsigned’ applications floating around the web, partly because part time developers either do not have the time or money to get their applications signed via the Symbian Signed program. While quite a bit of such applications can be signed via the Open Signed website, some cannot be and quite frankly there are times when we are simply lazy.
For all such reasons it is best to have a developer certificate with which you can sign the files on the phone itself and install without having to …

How To Recover Phone Memory On Your Nokia N97

One major oversight on Nokia’s part when they created the N97 was the paltry phone memory on the handset. I am not talking about the 32GB storage, but the actual phone memory where contacts, notes, email, messages and other things are stored. The phone memory is limited to a grand 74 MB, out of which only about 45 MB is available because the rest is taken up by the pre-installed application and so on.

Next if you install some applications or themes of your own, you will find yourself with very …

How To Change The Product Code On A N97 & Nokia 5800

Following on from my previous post about the Nemesis Service Suite (NSS) update to include compatibility with the latest Nokia devices including S60 5th Edition and Windows 7 is this brief tutorial which explains how to change the product code on a Nokia device in order to update the firmware.

This tutorial should be valid for all Nokia devices including the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music and not just the N97 which I have used to demo the procedure.

Mobitol: How To Copy Text From The S60 Browser

We have waited and we have waited, yet despite there even being a touch S60 handset, there has been no method to copy text from webpages in the S60 browser. There have been workarounds but even they have been hardly successful.

However, the solution I have just hit upon holds promise. On a previous post of mine about copying text from the S60 browser, Cousin Issac has written about a website called Mobitol he has made that pops the entire text of the entire webpage into a text box from which …
