The N95-1 Updated - The v.31 Firmware Is Here

Perhaps for the final time, Nokia has rolled out a new firmware for the Nokia N95 - v31.0.014. The new firmware apparently just brings bug fixes and perhaps an end to the ‘platform hack’. Since the phone doesn’t support UDP (User Data Preservation) make sure you back up the device before you update via the NSU. If you are keen on hacking, hang on to v30 as this firmware has nothing special to offer, no transitions N81 style and so on.

New Firmware v30.0.015 Out For The N95

Nokia seems to have made it a habbit, close on the heels of the N95 8GB the Nokia N95 has also received its long awaited firmware update and now stands at v30.0.015. The good news is that the firmware is also available via the NSU. The new UI that the N81 got, hasn’t made it to the N95, although Automatic Screen Rotation has made an appearance. Also, in case you care, the ‘hack’ still works.
Will update this post as soon as I have more details.

E71 v/s E90 v/s T9 - Which Is The Fastest?

THE E71 QWERTY v. THE E90 QWERTY v. T9 INPUT
One of the reasons the E71 was so hotly anticipated was because it brought QWERTY back into the Eseries after quite a while, the last Eseries in the same form factor being the E61i. But because of its size, it created doubts in the minds of a lot of people about its real world usability. I have been a Nseries man for a long time and since it still offers no QWERTY, I became really proficient with T9 and …

This one hit me completely out of the blue. Apparently a chap named Jovan has managed to get Android up and running on a Nokia N95. Yes, the same Nokia N95 that runs the S60 operating system. He claims to now have a dual boot between Andriod and S60. He backs up this claim by the video above and another one below, with which he demoes Google Maps and the Dialer. After playing with this setup he says, “My impressions after using it are all positive, its much faster than …

Its true folks. Like its upcoming sibling, the N96 and the already available N81, the N95 too has gaming keys. Running the latest firmware and the N-Gage client, not only does the N95 do 270 degree rotation but also allows the middle two multimedia keys to be used as key A and B for gaming. The folks at AAS have put up a small video demonstrating the same, check it out.
This comes after a lot of confusion about this possibility and a lot of people wishing that such a thing was …

All you N95-3 owners rejoice, after months of waiting the v20 firmware is out! Fire up the NSU to get going. This firmware brings Flash Video support in the browser, a 19 second bootup time, a 2 second camera load time, the search shortcut to the standby screen and most probably demand paging. There seems to be no automatic screen rotation though.

The latest v21 fimrware for the N95-1 is finally available via NSU after being available at Nokia Service Points for some time now. This update brings the Web Runtime support and Flash Lite 3 support to the N95; flash based video in the web browser is finally a go! The complete changelog curiously was out well ahead of the firmware itself and I had posted it here.
This firmware as always will still not be available for operator branded handsets and for some product codes; just wait and watch for now! …

Nokia keeps coming out with a lot of editions be it a Music Edition, Internet Edition, Navi Pack and so on. Here is someone who is turning his N95-1 into a water edition! Please keep in mind that doing this at home is seriously injurious to your phone’s health and should NOT be done!
In case if your phone ever does get wet, the best bet is to take the battery out immediately, to prevent a short circuit and let the phone dry for as long as possible and only then …

Apple’s iPhone made a big deal of its positional awareness and it the implications the embedded sensor had for the interface. You rotate the phone and then in SOME applications you can use the phone in the landscape orientation.
Nobody is taking note of the fact that in order to be seen as a native application in the S60 version 3 platform, an application is recommended to support both of the orientations, portrait and landscape.
If you fast forward a little, you can see that Nokia starting implementing accelerometers in their phones …
