Anssi Vanjoki – ‘The N97 Has Been A Tremendous Disappointment In Terms Of The Experience Quality For The Consumers’

In an ’speaking from the heart’ interview to Rafe and Ewan at the Mobile World Congress, Anssi Vanjoki bit the bullet and talked about the N97, what went wrong and how it has been a huge nightmare for Nokia.
It is unheard of for a company to acknowledge their faux pas so openly but such an acknowledgement and a promise that they have learnt from their mistakes was heartning to see.

What Is MeeGo?

What is MeeGo? A new OS? The name of a very important partnership? What happens to Maemo after this? Is Symbian still in the picture for Nokia? Maemo 6?

MeeGo is the result of Intel and Nokia’s broad strategic collaboration announced in June 2009. Today, they have come together to create MeeGo, a Linux-based software platform that will support multiple hardware architectures across the broadest range of device segments, including pocketable mobile computers, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems.

Intel & Nokia Merge Maemo With Moblin – Call It MeeGo

In a significant development in the convergence of communications and computing, Intel Corporation and Nokia are merging their popular Moblin and Maemo software platforms. Technical Specs Of The N86, E55, E75 & Other Handsets Announced At The MWC

The Mobile World Congress saw Nokia release not two, not four by five new S60 devices. We have all seen pictures, videos and basic specifications of the N86, E55, E75, 6710 Navigator and the 6720 Classic but the real geeks and S60 enthusiasts are always interested in the insides of the device, what processor the phone runs, supported Bluetooth profiles and so on.

Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola & LG To Have A Standard Charger

At the MWC the GSMA has announced a plan for major phone manufacturers to produce one standard microUSB charger that would work across all handset brands. The plan has the blessings of major manufacturers including Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola & LG amongst others.

Recent devices from Nokia such as the N97, N85 and the just announced N86 already support microUSB charging and the plan is to make most devices support this standard by 2012.

Videos: All About The Nokia N86

After the Nokia E75, it is now time of the Nokia N86 to be demoed in video. The N86 is Nokia’s latest imaging flagship that boasts of a 8MP camera and a 3rd generation dual LED flash. The USP of the camera is the presence of a wide-angle Carl Zeiss Tessar lens for panoramic pictures, shorter latencies and variable aperture for super sharp photos in challenging bright and low light conditions.

Samsung Unviels Omnia HD i8190

Samsung today unveiled the Omnia HD i8190, a device that could well possibly be the phone of the MWC. The phone runs on S60 5th Edition, packs a 3.7″ AMOLED display, an 8MP camera and is capable of full 720p HD video recording, a first for any S60 smartphone.

At just 12.7mm, it is pretty slim and pleasing to the eye. The device is completely touch based and the few buttons that it has are placed similar to those on the Nokia 5800.

Nokia N86 Official Datasheet & Specifications

Here is it folks, the official datasheet of the Nokia N86, a device which infact has turned out to the an N85 successor rather than being the N82 replacement for we still don’t have Xenon.

Notable specs include a 1200 mAh battery, a 2.6″ AMOLED screen, FM Transmitter, 7 hours of Video/Gaming and 25 hours of audio playback, AGPS & Digital Compass, S60 3rd Edition FP2. It weighs 149g and is 103.4 x 51.4 x 16.5 mm in size.

The Nokia N86 Will Have A Dual LED Flash

I was really looking forward to the N86 announcement tomorrow, but I’ve just come across this picture of the N86’s camera. Yes, our worst fears have indeed come true. That’s a dual-LED flash and NOT Xenon.

After taking so very long to release a N82 successor, I simply can’t understand why Nokia chose to skip the Xenon once more? I am distraught.
