<description>Here is what i thought of the N96 at the time of its announcement.

Nokia N96

The MWC at Barcelona, Spain was sure to bring up many surprises for all of us eagerly awaiting, mobile hunger geeks. Nokia the world leader in mobile technology came up with their new flagship device, the monster N96, although I must say that the device pics were doing the rounds by the new year and the specs info got leaked by some German webmaster from Nokia, still the official announcement was a sweet music for our ears. The N96 goes ahead of the last year leader N95 and deserves praise for its smashing set of features despite of being looking like a N95 and N81 offspring, it surely is their worthy successor. Nokia N96 is a quad-band handset with dual-band HSDPA support for worldwide coverage that is GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz and WCDMA/HSDPA 900/2100 Mhz connectivity.
Dimensions wise it is 4mm taller than the N95 and 5 grams heavier but we must not forget its bigger screen which increases the size. When compared to the N81, the N96 has more breadth but is 15 grams lighter! (way heavy in terms of features). Here you cannot ignore the fingerprint prone surface, so the offspring looks like N81, walks like the N95 and has characteristics of both and adding more from other members of its N-series family. The design should have been somewhat better.
Moving on to its features, the N96 has everything one can dream to have in his phone, future thoughts aside. Although I feel nothing revolutionary has been incorporated in this tech box still many have gasped after hearing about its memory power, 16 gb internal plus micro sd card slot!! Wow!! So is this phone a replacement for any handy music, video, tv gadget? TV? Did I forgot to say it has TV facilities too, sorry for that, with the tv-out function you can watch TV on this piece too by its DVB-H receiver. So we have a 5mp cam(auto focus, carl zeiss) with dual led’s for flash while recording those precious dvd quality videos, wifi, A-gps with nokia maps 2.0, a geo-tagging for photos (photos can come with coordinates of the place they we took at), and to top all these, the new spanking UI S60 v9.3 which puts in the open function for the center button. The connectivity set sports Wi-Fi b/g with UPnP support, microUSB v2.0, DVB-H class C, a 3.5mm stereo headphone plug and Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP stereo audio. The display is great as usual. Oh I forgot to mention that the N96 has a folding stand (innovation), which is a part of the camera’s framing. This will certainly improve the video experience. The phone supports OVI also. The music buttons like the N95 ones are dual functioning too, wooo, you can play N-gage games too by these buttons, although the 3d accelerator is missing here. Frankly speaking I expected Nokia to bring up something like the optical zoom, a 7mp camera or an inbuilt projector.
Now about the problem stuff, it has the same 950mAh battery, no sighed many, yes said Nokia, they said size is the constraint. Price would cause a hole in your pocket, 800 dollars but bear in mind that its their flagship and has the features to outrun the market by a comfortable margin. Seeing a gap of more than 1 year between the N95 and N96 announcement I think Nokia has just taken the best features from its N-series devices and put them together.</description>
