The Symbian Blog Giveaway Winners

Last month, celebrating one year of The Symbian Blog, we had a bluetooth headsets giveaway. All you needed to do was to register at the Nseries Fusion Challenge website and leave your username in the comments section. Unfortunately, the contest was limited only to those of you in India and we had a total of 55 comments staking their claim. Each comment was assigned a number and the winners were chosen by generating 3 random numbers from Random.Org.

Some of these comments were repetitions, or invalid and therefore were not considered …

Initial Impressions Of The N85 & N79

First of all, I am absolutely miffed at not being able to attend the virtual launch of these devices as such events are something that Nokia is really good at and second it gives people from all around the world, an opportunity to interact with the people behind the scenes. I really hope at least some of you would have been able to tune in and Nokia makes them a regular feature, at random – just to get the pulse.
Now that the initial euphoria that accompanies every device launch has …

Following on from the N78, the venerable 6220 Classic has received an “over-the-air” update which takes its current firmware version to 3.23. The release v3.23 includes improved stability with Bluetooth (headsets & car kits) and Navigation. The 1.5 MB update is available via the device manager – Menu > Settings > Data Mgr. > Device Manager. Select Options > Check for Updates.
Having tried OTA updates on a N78 I can vouch for their ease of use and user data preservation. Updating is highly advisable and quite a breeze, really. However, …

The N79 & N85 Out – Official Release Tomorrow

As is usual for Nokia these days, one day before the official announcements, details and watermarked Conversations press photos of the N85 and the N79 are out in the open. Both these handsets are music & camera centric and are successors of the N81 and the N78 respectively.
The N85 bears a striking resemblance to the upcoming N96 and adds another number to the growing list of Nseries sliders. The handset will feature a 2.6 OLED screen, which boasts of a faster response time, lower power consumption and faster refresh rate …

Nokia – Do Look Where Your Build Quality Is Going

It has almost become an accepted fact that Eseries devices from Nokia have better build quality than their Nseries siblings, for a long time I thought so too. However, for the good or the bad, that belief of mine has been shattered. Eseries devices have disappointed too and that leads me to this post.
In the last two month or so I or my friends have picked up three Nokia E90’s and two N82’s and what is bad is that all but one have had some problem or the other.

The N96 To Start Shipping In Early September, iPhone Fans Pay Attention

Much to my delight, Nokia today officially unveiled the N96 here in India, over a month before the global expected shipping date. The reason I am so happy about the release date being advanced to early September is because the iPhone is all set to rear its head in India on August the 22nd at an exorbitant 700$ plus price. What this means is that the N96 will be able to take on Apple’s offering and this will make for an interesting watch in the coming months. This post shares …

I started this blog in May 2007 and since then at various times I have felt the need to have greater control over the blog which Wordpress.com doesn’t allow. Since I have no background in graphics and web design, I kept myself from moving to a self hosted blog. However, I have now decided to take the plunge and move the site to a hosting of my own and see how it goes.
During the next few hours the website may therefore be unavailable, links might not work or the layout …

Rediscovering SportsTracker With The N78

One of the things I have been wanting to do for quite a while now is extensively try out the latest version of the multifaceted ‘Sports Tracker’ application. Like I’ve said earlier , since the time it first came out, it has undergone so much change and improvements that ’sportstracker’ is an understatement and well, a little misleading and because of this a lot of us fail to put it to its best use which is not sports but recording a trek/trip.
The lower range of the Himalayas is pretty …

Ladies and Gentelmen Openatownrisk.com is back. What this means is that the elusive site is accessible once more so you can take a shot at watching the most insane video ever produced and also win an exclusive T-shirt if you are in the top 500. All you need to do is break four seals to unlock everything, simply breaking the first will give you access to the video.
This is where there is a huge glitch on Nokia’s part and I mean huge. The video that is supposedly in the Download! …

Nokia Pilots Makes Me Jump With Joy

When word of the Nokia Pilots program first came out, I skipped writing about it for the simple reason that we didn’t know what it was going to be. Was it merely going to be access to alpha applications or was it going to be much more, the stuff of our dreams?
But having read this post by Mikko Lintunen of Nokia Pilots on the Beta Labs pages , I write this post as a Nokia fanboy who’s long time dream has just come true. Nokia Pilots is going …
