A little while ago Nokia launched the Nseries Fusion Challenge, aimed at promoting the Geo-Tagging culture and use of the ever improving Sports Tracker application to document your life and have richer memories. The contest is open to everyone in India even if you are not in any of the central cities that you see on the Fusion Homepage. All you need to do is select the city closest to you or the one you would be happy to travel to in case you win at the city level.

My friend Jeb Brilliant of Brilliant Expos has been doing some great work on TopMobile20, a contest site for smartphone software. It is an online contest meant to shine a bright light on the very best smartphone software and in the process help the users learn more about them. The big news is that the contest which opened up in early May is now open till the end of August. So if you are a developer, it’s a fine oppertunity to showcase your application, as the winners will be chosen …

It is no secret that I am a big fan of Nokia S60 devices and don’t think twice before recommending such a device to anyone. What’s more is that I am also in a habit to observe what devices are people using, somewhat automatically.
So when I actually see people using Nokia S60’s I more often than not suggest an application, some tweak or anything to help get them more out of a device. On all occasions people have been happier after incorporating what I had to say, but this …

It was a while ago that news came out that Nokia S60 devices had been hacked/jailbroken. At that point in time the procedure was complicated and not everybody would attempt doing it. Then Nokia released firmwares that took away this possibility.
But another version of the hack was created, which made it much easier to jailbreak and install unsigned applications and add patches. Jailbreaking/Hacking now takes less than two minutes and you do not even need a computer. I have been mulling over the idea of putting up a guide to …
News, Symbian »
This is one disturbing piece of news. Reports on the internet suggest that as of today Series 60 Third Edition is no longer virus/malware free. The credit for taking away the virus free title goes to a software known as the “Isexplayer” which acts as a pornographic portal offering a myriad of “services”. Once the .sis file is installed, the software reportedly automatically dials a premium-rate international phone number without the owners’ knowledge.
The application during installation asks for the user’s permission to make calls and after that reportedly …

A few days ago Nokia announced the Hands Free Challenge where you can win a N82 and a Nokia BH-902 bluetooth headset each week. The challenge itself is to find out what people can do with their hands when they’re left to roam free, and ties in with Nokia’s range of Bluetooth headsets.
To win, all you need to do is upload a video demonstrating what you would do with your hands and hope that it becomes the most popular video of the week. I meanwhile will try and figure out …
Applications, S60 »
The man behind the arguably best S60 file manger Y-Browser, has released three new applications, albeit as early alphas. First up is Theme Scheduler that allows automated theme switching with a timer, or automated theme changing based on the active profile.
Next is a Fake Message application that allows timed “sending” of fake SMS messages, so next time you want to get out of a tight situation, you’ll know what to do.
Last of all is Profile Scheduler that brings in automated profile switching for free. This is a feature that’s been …
