Most power users feel compelled to format their S60 devices after a few months of usage as the phone gets too cluttered with the applications they have installed. However what holds them back is that fact that reinstalling all the apps they need after the format is a pain.
After a firmware upgrade also we face the same problem. A friend just IM’d me this wonderful freeware application called InstFast that helps install multiple applications in one go with a minimum of dialog boxes! Unfortunately I couldn’t find out anything about the developers.
It works like a like Batch Installer. You select a bunch of Apps, place them in a folder and it will Install them all at once with Minimal Installation Pop-ups! Supported files include sis, sisx & jar. By default the path is set to a temp directory but you can select a particular location. It also allows you to decide whether you want to install in the Phone Memory or the Memory Card. Very neat!
You will need to sign it with your developer certificate from symbian signed before installation.

Red Five Labs has released a beta version of Net60 - the .NET Compact Framework for S60 which is available for immediate download. Net60 is a ground breaking implementation of the .NET Compact Framework running on S60 3rd edition devices, it enables managed Windows Mobile applications to run unchanged on S60 devices. Using C# and Visual Basic .NET in Visual Studio, developers can now use the .NET Compact Framework environment to build applications for Symbian devices.
To get your hands on the software you need to complete the sign up process and wait for the account to be approved. This beta version supports S60 3rd edition devices.
However, please do note that not ALL Windows Mobile applications will run using this software. It only enables the .Net applications to run. Still this is one of the better things to happen for S60!

One aspect of the Nseries WiFi phones I am sure not a lot of us put into play is UPnP. I for one have hardly used this capability on my N95 which actually is very useful. Considering the fact that you can stream all your pictures, music and video to your phone from your PC or any other so device setup, the Home Media application is neat. But what takes the cake is using TV out in tandem with UPnP. Its pretty nifty to stream pictures from a PC in some room to your TV via the phone.
In this post guest author Anuj Singhal talks about how to set it up and utilize the benefit of say a 120GB harddisk on the phone! Note: Although this post is based on the N95 it may be valid for other wifi capable devices also.

I just came across this neat Flash Lite file that transforms the S60 devices into an iPhone for all those of you who like the slick interface. It is not compatible with Flash Lite 3 but runs smoothly on the inbuilt Flash application. It is great to use as a screensaver also. However certain icons such as YouTube do not perform the corresponding task.

Rita has probably made the find of the year! She’s just found Nokioteca, the homeland of all glorious Italian themers like Jendell, Ivanov, Giambi, Gnokkia, Babi, Pasco, Pizero, Luca and Lillium to name a few! Whether you are a theme freak or someone like me who just likes clean, plain and polished themes its a must visit.
There is one catch though, the forum is in Italian and if you can get yourself registered with a translator or something, its game on! Jump over for all the details! Screenshots courtesy Rita again!

Norman over at Symbian World has this great series going on in which he interviews bloggers from the S60 community in which he covers questions like why did they start blogging, views on S60 and a bit of background about themselves amongst other things. This week was my turn! In case you are interested, have a read here!
Norman, thanks for the interview, really appreciate it!

Its has been 24 hours since the N96 has been leaked and it has managed to generate quite a bit of buzz around the web. I saw the news yesterday but had an exam in the morning so couldn’t really spend time on the device. Since then I have a lot of questions in my mind, even had them bothering me while I was writing the exam! But lets start with what we know about the device or at least think we know:
- Music Centered Device based on the N81-N95 combine.
- A 5MP Camera with dual LEDs and no lens cover.
- Feature Pack 2.
- 2.6/2.8″ Screen. ( I hope is 2.8″)
- All features of the N95 and the audio quality of the N91 plus noise cancellation and 16GB storage may be.
- A provision to make it stand for video consumption.
- A card slot for even more memory!
- More shots of the device here.
Now here’s what I think.

The user manual for the N95 says that it can open multiple windows in the browser but even after three firmwares I am yet to see that option materialise. However what the latest v20 firmware has done, is give the N95 a decent ammount of free RAM. Under the old circumstances I never really dreamed of managing multiple windows on the browser, however things have changed and we are in a position to do so. I sucessfully opened four websites including AAS, Symbian-Guru, WOM World, The Symbian Blog. When I tried opening the heaviest of them all Intomobile, it did load but after a while the other four crashed! However the max anyone will open is about theree, which is just fine.

For the other devices too, such as the N82, N81 and the others with decent ammount of RAM already, multiple windows on high speed wifi/3G connections is something practical. There are two methods I have been using to open multiple windows, here’s a rundown of both of them.

I am not a very WebOS person, however I am open to trying out new applications. Anuj from the N95 Community mentioned running Glide, a WebOS on the N95 I decided to give it a shot. Websites like Google are doing a pretty decent job syncing our content over the web through various applications like calender being accessible on the mobile. However a WebOS promises a complete experience and well, delivers in some cases!
