The N82 was launched yesterday after much anticipation, rumors and spy shots. Full Techical Specifications are available here. The virtual event and the product manager chit chat has been widely appreciated the world over and I myself love the idea thoroughly. It a great concept and I do hope continues with it, but what I really want is the idea being extended and given a new dimension.
Generally companies launch products with much fanfare and then their commitment dips to an extent. What I would love to see is such programs …

The N800 as a media device performs reasonably. However the clear lack of support for some codecs does mar it a little specially in the video department. It failed to play mp4 videos recorded on the N95. Since I have been carrying these devices together for a while now, I wanted to play some video I’d just shot from the N95 and when it failed to play I was almost shocked. A modern smartphone such as the N95 can handle most formats thanks to a great third party application called …

Its a little late in the day but still here are a few thoughts on the Android Video Demo below.

What we see in the demo is pretty average. Thedemo starts with basic functionality i.e. making calls and text messages. Calls is fine but I don’t really like the way texts are handled. Somehow and I’m not prejudiced.
Next comes a touch based device on which the Browser and Maps are demoed. Nothing special. A webkit based browser and google maps. Hell, even the maps are not stored on the device. I hate to be having …

This has been a long time coming! I’ve wanted to write this post for over two weeks now, however something or the other kept coming up. Even now I’m writing on the N95 (with the key press bug)!
First of all I would like to thank WOM WORLD for sending across this great device. I’m especially grateful to Siobhan, Lucy and Donna who all helped get this done! Thanks a ton! Really!
Recently I read this post over at Symbian World which compared the N95 to the N800. Norman had some great observations …

Well, the much anticipated, much hyped Google phone turned out into a completely new operating system called Android that is supposed to be open and free.  Meaning thereby that manufacturers could use it for developing their smartphones without having to pay for or license an OS such as Symbian or WinMo. The idea behind the entire scheme of things is deriving advertising based revenue and thus reducing the cost of the phone. However would this business model really make a difference? Would it actually revolutionarise the way we use phones? …

The Nokia Blog has this great video up demonstrating another awesome use of the N95’s built in accelerometer.
In the video the N95 emulates a Sony Ericsson W580i and gets shake music control. The creator of this video claims to have done this within 30 minutes! Great work! Why didn’t Nokia not talk about this great feature when Apple was literally screaming with the iPhone (read iHype)! Can we get an updated Music Player in the new firmware Nokia? Please!

The Google Mobile Phone OS ‘Android‘ has just gone official. Android, is named after the start-up company that Google bought in 2004 for its mobile software. Google has also made it clear that it won’t be making or marketing any phones. It is more significant and ambitious than a single phone. In fact, through the joint efforts of the members of the Open Handset Alliance, Google hopes to make Android the foundation for many new phones and create an entirely new mobile experience for users, with new applications and new capabilities. …

Well this has nothing to do with Symbian directly but is far too important to miss. According to a post over at C|Net google is going to announce a new platform, a new mobile operating system that runs on Linux and is called Android! Such an announcement has been expected for long and now we have just one more day to go. On Monday Google is expected to reveal details on the mythical Gphone.
Google is calling the venture an “Open Handset Alliance” and it includes partners like  KDDI and NTT DoCoMo and 30 …

Almost everyday we have people putting the N95 to various uses, Ricky Cadden a.k.a. SymbianGuru’s N95 on a Kite or James of Nokia Creative’s under water filming.
Gaurav Rathod, a member of the Nokia N95 Community on Orkut, a social networking website and a member of Khagol Vishwa, an amatuer astronomy organisation has posted two amazing pictures from his 9″ telescope mounted N95.
Update: SkyandTelescope.com also has the pictures up.
The first one is of the planet Saturn:
